Okay so during the golden Globe, k pop demon hunter won the award for best animated film of the year and it beat the likes of Zootopia 2 and Demon Slayer, now there seems to be a misunderstanding that K pop demon hunter beat demon Slayer for animation standards and fans feel that demon Slayer was robbed but it wasn't animated film isn't just off about animation alone, there are other criterias if animation was the criteria there really isn't any movie that could compete with demon Slayer or most anime's.
And there are some also that believe that even after other factors put into consideration k pop demon hunter still didn't deserve the award, I have watched both I'm a fan of anime and I've watched demon Slayer I loved it same way I also loved k pop demon hunter. While demon Slayer is a record breaking anime, k pop demon Hunter being something that just came out it went really far like feat wise
Also won Best Original Song (“Golden”) at the Golden Globes.
Won Best Animated Feature at the Critics’ Choice Awards as well.
Has swept many critics groups’ Best Animated Film awards (across dozens of critics associations).
Earned top nominations at the 53rd Annie Awards (animation-specific honors).
Now why did demon Slayer not win
Demon Slayer is a box-office and fan phenomenon, but major awards (Golden Globes, Oscars, Critics’ Choice) are not popularity contests.
They prioritize:
Story originality
Thematic depth
Innovation in animation or storytelling
Broad cultural or artistic impact
Record-breaking sales help, but they don’t guarantee wins.
Western Award Bias (Let’s Be Honest)
There is a bias not against anime specifically, but against:
Long-running shonen franchises
Action-heavy storytelling
Western voters historically favor:
Emotional, message-driven narratives
Music, metaphor, or social themes
Experimental or hybrid styles
Anime can win (like Spirited Away, Boy and the Heron), but those are:
Director-driven
Less battle-focused
More symbolic and reflective
