Cassie, also known as “Song of the Fallen,” is a major character in the web novel Shadow Slave. Born as Cassia, she is a blind seer whose life was drastically changed after her First Nightmare, which left her with a debilitating flaw blindness but granted her extraordinary prophetic abilities.
Initially viewed as weak and helpless, Cassie began her journey at the Academy where she struggled with isolation and low status. However, after surviving the deadly events of the Forgotten Shore thanks in part to her companion she grew into a powerful and resilient Awakened.
Despite her gentle and compassionate nature, Cassie carries a heavy burden: her visions of the future. These insights grant her immense knowledge but isolate her emotionally, forcing her to make painful decisions, sometimes even betraying those she cares about to alter fate.
Over time, she evolves into a mysterious and strategic figure part oracle, part warrior driven by a deep desire to protect her friends and change a seemingly predetermined destiny, no matter the cost.
Core Ability: Prophetic Sight (Clairvoyance)
Cassie’s most defining power is her ability to see the future.
She receives visions of possible futures, not just one fixed outcome.
These visions can be fragmented, symbolic, or painfully clear, depending on the situation.
The further into the future she looks, the less stable and more dangerous the vision becomes.
Important: Her power does not guarantee accuracy it shows possibilities, and her actions can change the outcome.
Sensory Replacement (Sight Beyond Sight)
Although physically blind, Cassie “sees” the world in a different way:
She perceives people and surroundings through a sixth sense-like awareness.
This perception is often described as intuitive or spiritual vision, rather than literal sight.
In many situations, she can function as if she isn’t blind at all. Fate Awareness & Interpretation
Cassie doesn’t just see visions she understands patterns of fate.
She can interpret events before they happen and guide decisions.
This makes her extremely valuable in planning, survival, and strategy.
However, interpreting visions is mentally exhausting and emotionally heavy.
Mental Burden (Cost of Power)
Her abilities come with severe drawbacks:
Visions can cause pain, disorientation, or mental strain.
She is often forced to live with knowledge of tragic outcomes she may not be able to stop.
This creates a constant internal conflict
Should she interfere, or let fate unfold?
Limited Control Over Fate
Cassie can influence the future, but with limits:
Changing one event can create unexpected consequences elsewhere.
Sometimes, her attempts to prevent tragedy may actually cause it indirectly.
This makes her power both incredibly powerful and dangerously unreliable.
Strategic Intelligence
Because of her foresight:
She becomes a master strategist, often thinking several steps ahead.
She can guide stronger fighters (like Nephis or Sunny) toward survival.
Her strength lies not in raw combat, but in control of information and timing.
Why She’s So Dangerous
Cassie’s true power isn’t just seeing the future it’s:
Knowing what must be sacrificed
Choosing who lives and who dies (indirectly)
And carrying the weight of those choices
