Jigokuraku - Hell's Paradise Power System Feels Familiar
So I decided to start watching Jigokuraku Season 2.
Remembered season 1 was peak
But it’s been a long time since I watched Season 1, so I went back to S1E1. That’s when I really started paying attention to the power system.
Jigokuraku was one of the first anime I ever watched, so back then I couldn’t really make these connections. On rewatch though, Tao stood out immediately.
Jigokuraku’s power system, Tao, feels unique at first, but the more you watch, the more it starts reminding you of power systems we already understand from other anime.
Other notable similarities between Tao and other power systems:
•Sagiri uses Tao through controlled breathing and focus, which feels very similar to Demon Slayer’s breathing techniques
•Gabimaru’s ninjutsu is also derived from Tao, closely resembling how chakra fuels ninjutsu in Naruto
•The kunoichi mentions that Tao is called qi in her village, showing how the same internal energy exists under different names
Basically, Tao is tied to the body’s balance and flow, especially around the navel. This is very similar to how chakra works in Naruto, where power comes from controlling internal energy rather than just physical strength.
On rewatch, it makes Jigokuraku’s power system feel less random and more grounded — just another interpretation of a concept anime fans already understand.
NOTE: I'm not saying they took the power system from other anime! I just really like the dynamism of the power system.
